About the artist
A Berlin artist who works in code. He writes small deterministic drawing systems: thousands of fine ink strands follow an invisible field, flowing around one reserved empty shape whose edge is drawn entirely by absence. Every print is a single numbered seed, chosen from hundreds and never corrected by hand.
See all by Emil VargaA census of a sky that was never observed: 2,326 points placed by a system that decides brightness, drift and clustering from a single number, then counts what it drew. A passing body removes 128 of them, and the plate records both figures in its foot rather than hiding the arithmetic. This print is seed 7 of Emil Varga's deterministic system Occultation, drawn in the Census style, where the sky itself is the subject rather than the shape occulting it. Rendered from code at 300 DPI: the same seed, the same algorithm, the same parameters, always the same plate.
This piece is drawn by code, not by hand and not by a model. The values above are its whole recipe, and the same values always draw this plate exactly, pixel for pixel. We record them so the edition stays pinned: what you buy cannot quietly become a different image later.
